Voice

Voice : It Indicates if the subject acts or is acted upon

Active voice: The subject acts

The subject comes first in the sentence and the object comes last

Passive voice: The subject was acted upon

The object becomes the subject

“By” is used before the subject or the doer

Change the given sentences from active to passive voice

(Simple Present tense)

1. The child drinks coffee every morning

Coffee is drunk by the child every morning

2. Grandpa tells me a story at night

A story is told to me by grandpa every night.

Present (Continuous tense)

1. The boy is drawing a picture

A picture is being drawn by the boy

2. Sita is pouring water into the glass

Water is being poured into the glass by Sita

(Simple Past tense)

1. The woman tore the beautiful shirt

The beautiful shirt was torn by the woman

2. Priyanka wrote a beautiful poem

A beautiful poem was written by Priyanka

Past continuous tense

1. The girl was eating breakfast

Breakfast was being eaten by the girl

2. Arun was reading a book

A book was being read by Arun

Let us Identify ACTIVE and PASSIVE VOICE:

  4. The boy helped the old woman cross the road -----------Active

  1. My aunt is knitting a sweater for me

A sweater is being knitted by my aunt.

  1. The coach praised the players

    The players were being praised by the coach

  2. She did not accept the job.

    The job was not accepted by her.

  3. Am I disturbing you?

    Are you being disturbed by me?

  1. Is she watering the plants?

    Are the plants watered by her?
